Used for centuries as a cough remedy, the chemicals in coltsfoot may decrease cough, thin lung secretions, decrease swelling, and have a soothing agent on irritated tissue. It was so widely used for folklore medicines that, in Paris, the Coltsfoot flowers used to be painted as a sign on the doorpost of an apothecary's shop.

It soothes coughs through smoking the leaves or by drinking the syrup or the tea. It can be used alone or blended with other herbs for these remedies.

Do not take coltsfoot if you are/have:
pregnant or breast-feeding
high blood pressure
heart disease
liver disease
allergic to ragweed, chrysanthemums, marigolds, and/or daisies
